Project
BRUGG Pipes supplied two flexible, vacuum-insulated cryogenic pipelines to a leading European aerospace company for the expansion of an existing test infrastructure for innovative propulsion systems. The pipes connect a tank for cryogenic media installed in an elevated position to an engine test facility located at a lower level. The installation placed high demands on planning, manufacturing and quality assurance, as cryogenic media must be transported safely and with minimal loss under extreme thermal conditions.
Pipes with nominal diameters of DN 100 and DN 40 and a length of 185 metres each were used. Both pipes were equipped with a redundant leak monitoring system to ensure maximum operational safety.
Thanks to an innovative manufacturing process, exceptional individual lengths of 90 metres and 95 metres were produced and delivered. This meant that only a single connection point was required per pipeline – a significant advantage in terms of tightness, safety and long-term operational reliability.
Execution
BRUGG Pipes was responsible for the technical planning, preparation, assembly and installation of the cryogenic pipes.
The route between the tank site and the test facility required precise coordination of all work steps. Thanks to only four connection points and the advantages of flexible piping during installation, the installation time was significantly reduced compared to a rigid piping system.
Special attention was paid to the high purity requirements of the project. Although no classic clean room production was available, all project-specific specifications were met through optimised manufacturing processes and consistent quality assurance.
All weld seams were X-ray inspected both in the factory and on the construction site. This comprehensive non-destructive testing ensured that the required tightness and safety requirements were met.
Throughout the entire construction phase, the focus was on execution quality, process reliability and precise coordination between all parties involved.
Potential for future projects
The successful implementation of this project has enabled the cryogenic supply infrastructure of a sensitive test facility to be reliably expanded. The combination of flexible, vacuum-insulated pipe technology, innovative manufacturing in exceptional individual lengths and comprehensive quality assurance proved to be a technically and economically convincing solution.
The project illustrates how BRUGG Pipes can realise reliable and sustainable infrastructures even in the high-tech sector through precise planning, high-quality system solutions and controlled execution.
