FLEXSTAR Biogasanlage

Highly flexible and resilient - FLEXSTAR for the biogas plant in France

In order to generate energy sustainably and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a biogas plant was built five years ago in the French twin municipality of Veigy-Foncenex near Lake Geneva. In 2023, the plant was expanded with a new building. With our FLEXSTAR UNO pipes, we created a reliable local heating pipeline that will supply the new section of the site with energy in the future.

The pipes were delivered to the construction site in two large rings, each 200 metres long. A construction machine lifted each ring and gradually rolled it up with the help of a pulling rope attached to a tractor. The pipes were then laid. The aim of the project was to connect the pre-pit of the biogas plant with the boiler room. The construction work took a total of two months. In contrast, the pipe laying was completed within two days.

The construction of a new building and the laying of the pipe system under the floor slab were the two most important construction stages. In the first stage, the pipes were installed in the new building. The concrete slab was then poured. The next stage involved laying the trench to the boiler room. Thanks to the good weather and the easy handling of the FLEXSTAR UNO pipes, the installation was quick and trouble-free. The local heating network will enable the biogas plant to supply the French region with even more renewable energy.

The FLEXSTAR pipe is made of a highly flexible material that enables tight bending radii during installation and eliminates the need for house entry bends. The efficient PUR foam insulation provides optimum pre-insulation for heat transport. In addition to the flexible design, the pipe can withstand even the heaviest loads thanks to the LLDPE outer casing. Suitable accessories, such as wall sealing rings with cable bushings, enable efficient realisation of future construction projects.
