ARMOPEX – Reinforced pipe system (PN12) for district heating

ARMOPEX is the new high-performance, flexible pipe system designed to meet the highest requirements in local and district heating applications. Developed for medium-pressure networks, ARMOPEX strategically bridges the gap between conventional PEX pipes and more cost-intensive metallic pipe systems, setting new benchmarks in safety, efficiency and future readiness.

Thanks to the aramid-reinforced PE-Xa inner pipe with integrated aluminium barrier layer, ARMOPEX is designed for operating temperatures up to 115 °C and operating pressures up to 12 bar (PN12) in accordance with temperature profile TR4 of TS 17889. These significantly higher pressure and temperature reserves ensure maximum operational reliability – even over long pipe runs, geodetic height differences or dynamic load peaks within district heating networks.

A key performance feature of ARMOPEX is its outstanding energy efficiency. The high-quality PUR insulation with the world’s lowest thermal conductivity of λ = 0.0199 W/mK (at 50 °C) reduces heat losses to a record low. This not only lowers operating costs, but also actively supports sustainable heat networks with lower flow temperatures.

Reinforced district heating pipe system for today’s and tomorrow’s network requirements

ARMOPEX is consistently designed to meet the demands of modern and future heat networks. Low to medium system temperatures, higher flow rates, decentralized inputs, and changing flow directions place new requirements on pipe systems in local and district heating. With its high pressure reserves, mechanical stability and flexibility, ARMOPEX as a composite pipe system is ideal for dynamic network structures, hybrid networks, and integration of renewable energy sources such as heat pumps, geothermal or solar thermal energy.

In addition to performance and efficiency, ARMOPEX excels in installation convenience. Delivery in long coils enables largely joint-free underground installation, reducing installation time, minimizing potential errors, and sustainably lowering installation costs. The robust, UV-resistant outer LLD-PE jacket reliably protects the system from environmental influences.

  • What is an aramid-reinforced PE-Xa pipe?

An aramid-reinforced PE-Xa pipe is a plastic pipe made of cross-linked polyethylene (PE-Xa) that is additionally reinforced with aramid fibres. This combination provides high flexibility with exceptional strength.

  • Why an integrated aluminium barrier?

PE-Xa pipes are permeable to gases, allowing oxygen from the environment to enter the heat transfer medium. In local and district heating systems, this can lead to additional heat loss and faster wear. An integrated aluminium barrier completely prevents oxygen ingress, protecting the district heating network from heat loss and significantly contributing to operational safety and the system’s service life.
