Important milestone for railway projects: BRUGG Pipes' FLEXWELL district heating cable-FHK has been officially approved for trenchless installation under railway tracks – without additional protective casing.
After several years of development and testing, DB InfraGO has confirmed the suitability of BRUGG Pipes' FLEXWELL-FHK for use in track crossings. The district heating cable thus meets the high railway-specific requirements and offers the planners, network operators and installation managers involved maximum planning and execution reliability.
Background: intensive testing and expert opinions
The confirmation was preceded by a process lasting several years – from technical evaluation and calculations to external expert opinions. The results were confirmed by the relevant DVGW working group on gas/water crossing guidelines and finally officially recognised by DB InfraGO's design responsibility department.
Advantages for trenchless track crossings
The FLEXWELL-FHK can be laid under track systems without an additional protective pipe – a decisive advantage in practice. Trenchless installation saves time and costs and enables safe, standard-compliant implementation even in sensitive infrastructure areas.
With the confirmation by DB InfraGO, we have reached an important milestone. The district heating cable thus has a unique selling point on the German market – and offers a high degree of safety, efficiency and sustainability.
Looking ahead
DB InfraGO's decision is not only significant for the German market: the approved process can also be transferred to other European markets in future, strengthening BRUGG Pipes' position as a reliable partner in the field of innovative pipe systems.
