Critical infrastructure secured in record time - BRUGG Pipes in action for Dresden

The unexpected partial collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden necessitated extensive measures at short notice to secure the city's district heating supply. On behalf of SachsenEnergie, BRUGG Pipes provided materials and planning capacity within a very short space of time in order to realise both a permanent pipeline route and a temporary supply provision.

The new installation along the banks of the Elbe comprised a total of 348 metres of PREMANT DN500/710 pipeline. 15 bends (1.2 × 1.2 m), six 90° and two 45° branches, two DN500 ball valves with full passage and 50 sleeves were also used. The work was carried out under difficult logistical conditions, including restricted access, strict requirements in the Königsufer area and increased safety requirements in the city centre.

At the same time, a temporary pipework system was set up on the Augustus Bridge. The planning of this temporary structure had to fulfil both the requirements of the monument protection authorities and special structural requirements. A total of 672 metres of DN400/560 pipeline were supplied, supplemented by 24 bends (1.5 × 1 m), 30 bends (1 × 1 m) and 75 DN560 sockets.

Both sub-projects were implemented on schedule. The district heating supply for the urban area was fully restored by the end of November 2024. The temporary pipeline system across the Augustus Bridge ensured continuous security of supply until the final completion of the main route.

BRUGG Pipes made a significant contribution to the smooth running of the project thanks to its high availability of materials, technical expertise and close coordination with all parties involved.
