BRUGG Pipes installs new heating pipeline at Zurich Airport during ongoing flight operations

New heating pipeline at Zurich Airport during flight operations

Installing a new heating pipeline without significantly disrupting operations at an international airport: this was precisely the challenge at Zurich Airport, placing particular demands on planning, logistics and installation.

For the new heating connection between buildings M1 and M2, BRUGG Pipes opted for a combination of CASAFLEX and PREMANT. Rather than replacing the existing pipeline beneath the airport’s concrete traffic areas using conventional methods, an existing accessible utility tunnel was used to route the new pipeline.

This is where CASAFLEX demonstrated its strengths: two flexible DN 100 pipelines, each 78 metres long, were routed through the existing infrastructure despite confined spaces, changes in direction and differences in height. Delivery on coils and the use of a BRUGG cable winch enabled fast and efficient installation within tightly coordinated time windows.

Together with Flughafen Zürich AG and the project partners E3 HLK AG, AWIAG Andy Wickart Planung and Welti-Furrer, BRUGG Pipes successfully completed this demanding infrastructure project on schedule and in compliance with all safety requirements.

The result: minimal intervention in the existing infrastructure and a reliable, long-term heat supply for the M2 building complex.
