For Energie Ausserschwyz AG, we installed a new district heating pipe between Altendorf and Pfäffikon in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland. The aim of the project was to supply the village of Pfäffikon with heat from the Galgenen wood-fired power plant. Our PREMANT pipe system was used for this purpose, offering high efficiency, durability and continuous monitoring capabilities.
Challenging installation with smart planning
The project covered a total route length of 1.8 km, with both a flow and a return pipe installed. This brought the total length of pipe installed to 3.6 km. To optimise construction time and ensure completion as quickly as possible, we opted for simultaneous installation from both ends:
One team started work in Altendorf, while another began in Pfäffikon at the same time. This strategy significantly reduced construction time and enabled a continuous heat supply to be established quickly.
A particular challenge was minimising the impact on the surrounding area, especially the sensitive natural environment of the Lööliwald forest. To keep disruption to the ecosystem to a minimum, 80% of the pipeline route was thermally prestressed. This technique largely eliminated the need for expansion loops, reducing installation work while also ensuring a particularly stable and durable pipe layout.
A successful project for a sustainable future
Thanks to close cooperation between everyone involved, from planning through to installation, this demanding project was completed on schedule. The new district heating pipe now provides a reliable heat supply to Pfäffikon while making a valuable contribution to the environmentally responsible use of resources. Another example of how smart planning, technical precision and an experienced installation team can ensure the efficient implementation of today's energy projects.
