A new construction project in Romont, Switzerland, required an adjustment to an existing district heating pipe along the Route des Echervettes. The challenge was to shorten the pipe and reconnect it to the existing system while the district heating network remained in operation.
The work focused on the professional shortening of the existing FLEXWELL-FHK pipe and its precise reconnection to the district heating network's supply and return system.
Demanding welding work in the excavation pit
The main technical challenge was producing the connection joint inside the excavation pit. This required a high-quality weld between the corrugated CrNi stainless steel service pipe, with a wall thickness of just 1.9 mm, and the steel pipe transition.
This welding work required specially trained personnel and precise execution. The modification was successfully completed, allowing the operational reliability of the district heating network to be maintained.
The project illustrates the technical requirements involved in modifying existing district heating pipes. BRUGG Pipes documents the work and its execution in the accompanying case study.
